A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult period, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks the player's first trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after that period of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his ability to play at the highest level was over.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

He came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.

The opponent rescued four early-game chances in a tight final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
